Exceptions worth knowing
- H-1 cannot be extended or converted easily — plan your next visa (D-4, D-2, E-7) before it ends.
- H-1 does not allow bringing dependents — a spouse or children need their own visa; there is no accompanying-family status on a working holiday.
- Once per lifetime is the general rule — Canada is the main exception, allowing two participations under its bilateral agreement.
